The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday reacted to the petroleum tanker explosion that occurred yesterday on Otedola Bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Recall that no fewer than nine people were reportedly killed in the fuel tanker mishap.
But the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in a statement on its official Twitter handle, confirmed that 54 vehicles were burnt to ashes.
Reacting to the incident, the opposition party commiserated with the people of Lagos State and the families of the victims.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP said, “We are deeply grieved by this shocking, horrid and traumatizing incident, which, in a very painful manner, cut short the lives of hardworking compatriots and brought painful material losses to many.
“Indeed, PDP mourns. Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the deceased. We join in praying that God grants the bereaved families the fortitude to bear their grief as well as speedy recovery for the wounded.”
The party also condoled with the “victims of the torrential rainfall that claimed the lives of some residents, devastated communities and farms in Katsina state.”
While praying for the “repose of the souls of the victims,” PDP urged “public-spirited individuals and groups to support the government of Katsina state in finding succour for those who encountered losses in the storm.”
The statement added, “Reviewing the tragic incidents, PDP lamented that the nation has witnessed a lot of tragedies and deaths in the recent time and urged all people of faith across the country to supplicate for the nation at this trying time.”
